Dimitris Michalaros is a visual artist, curator and cultural manager, born in 1981 in Megara, Greece. He currently lives and works in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece. His research focuses on art & technology, including robotic/ kinetic art, web-art/ net-art, etc. Moreover, he is focusing on promoting the Art & Technology in Greece and abroad, through his curatorial projects and lectures.
He graduated with a Master in Fine Arts from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago, with emphasis in Art and Technology, in 2008. He obtained his Bachelor in Painting from the School of Visual and Applied Arts (Painting division, Supervising professor: G. Gkolfinos), of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2006, he completed the European Animation Masterclass, at the International Academy of Media and Arts Halle, Germany. He has taught as an instructor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is co- curator at CyberArtSpace.net (www.CyberArtSpace.net) and until 2016 he was the Chief Director of the contemporary art festival Action Field Kodra (www.ActionFieldKodra.gr). He is the founder and the artistic director of katArt-e Art & Technology Lab (www.katart-e.com) and for the last two years he is focusing on creative economy and the startups ecosystem.
